What BHP?

Im trying hard not to have this thread turn into a 'guess the powah' thread, but i cant account for replies.

I am really wondering what sort of increase, if any, unmapped cams can give.

    My spec is:

    Kent PT51 Cams
    Miltek Stainless / Dual Exit
    Raceland Induction
    3.5Bar VTR FPR

Is there anyone out there in saxoland with a similar spec, and what kind of bhp/torque are you getting from this?

Is there anything i could get, before a remap (as its the pennies thats putting me off at the moment) to increase the break a little more? Superchip (if it exists)?
  2. #2
what exhaust manifold have you got?
  3. #3
Best off saving up for the remap bud. I dont think their is any kind of substitute for a nice live map for you own car

Not sure on the power figures tbh.

I gonna buy an mapped ecu off someone who had close mods too mine, as i want to wait for the 3plug Pred

save for remap, dont fit a superchip theyre generic shit.

51s are similar grind to 708s iirc, so go on that bar a few bhp either way

Im not sure of what that would produce though tbh. I cant bring myself to spend that much money and not get a penny of it back though. Theres not much call for resold cams and a remap should i sell up.
  6. #6
ok this is a very rough guess but id say 130-138 max unmapped
  7. #7
What improvement then, besides the better idle.. am i going to get from my £500 remap?

Proper fueling ect and around 10bhp more on a healthy engine, wouldnt advise leaving it unmapped as you will end up causing damage.

meh, its lasted this long. the FPR should sort out the lean running

Dont buy a pre mapped ECU either. You need to get it setup for the car.

No two engines are the same - there are so many tolerances, wear characteristics, fuel, oil and servicing discrepancies, especially on older engines, so you need to get the ECU remapped for every engine.

chips and remaps are pretty much the same mod, so you wouldn't have both, that really annoys me when you read a for sale thread and the seller has said its chipped and remapped grrrr lol rant over

as said the chip is just a map they give anyone, but a remap is 100x better as its suited to your car, also £500 seams steep for a remap, i imagined them to be around £200-300, my friend paid £260 to have his seat leon remapped and that was with the laptop connected to it taking it for a drive and tweaking it

ive found that diesel remaps are about £250 - which i would pay tbh - but it seems that for me to get the saxo remapped from the advice on here would set me back about £450 - £500, which in all honestly is ridonkulous money.

has anyone got a rough price for a remap?

ring john hes probably the closest to you in scotland
  14. #14
    John who?
  15. #15
john from gmc motorsport, my car made 110 @wheels with cat cam 708s and breathin mods thats without a remap, when i got john at gmc to remap my car is made almost 130@wheels !

your right about chipped and mapped it is annoying, but in theory is sort of right, as you fit a chip, which is mapped to an engine spec, so by fitting the chip your in effect re-mapping the ecu settings from stock....bt most are just generic crap....

and the £260 your mate paid would have been a generic map.. with either minor tweaking as you said while driving.... or the lad playing solitaire whilst telling your mate he'd be tweaking, proper live mapping which is what you want- is expensive, decent mapper will charger £400-thousands depending on engine spec/quality of mapper/how much you actually want out of the engine

lol yea it was a stage one map its wasnt set up on a rolling road, but we were in the car when he was tweeking it, he wasnt playing solitaire tbh i was getting quiet worried he spent more time looking at the laptop than the road

What sort of price did you pay if you dont mind me asking? Ive had a look at their website.

Dnt think gmc maP standard ecu, so would be about 500 quid for ecu then about 300 to 400 for the mapping.
  20. #20
I dont see how someone can justify £500 just for an ECU. Its ridiculous.

People will charge whatever they know people are willing to pay.
  22. #22
Hmm vthall what are you going on about?

And need to understand what hose into making an ecu. I Gladly bet you dnt know the first think hose into a ecu like what goes on the circuit board.

Well if you dnt want to use an after Market ecu then you will have to go to chipwizard coat about 400 to 500 for the standard ecu mapped.
  23. #23
You'd be better getting a plug & play mappable ECU for your £500 instead of a std ECU remapped
  24. #24
Yeah i suppose, but seeing what electronics you can buy nowadays for £500 something as small as an ECU seems like it shouldnt cost that much - but if it does it does
  25. #25
Yer it called motor sport Basiclly, cars ent cheap modifying them ent cheap it as simple as that.

With most after Market ecu have a lot of smart stuff on them just a Saxo dosent need them all, but it still on the software as such. As they are not all made for just the Saxo.

So they have software for other engine tech,

And remember what the ecu is doing at very fast speeds, when driving correct things as it get information for señsors then telling things to change like what the injectors are meant to be doing compared to the engine speeds, and throttle position.
