How often should these be changed? also is it best to let your tank run empty a few times just before you change it?

I change mine every time i service it its only 5 quid for the filter. I know it needs to be changed nothing like as much as that but for piece of mind its worth the fiver.

i am not sure but i think it something like every 40-60k miles.

is a change on a standard service from a garage? i had the car serviced last august but not sure wether it was changed or not. if it wasnt it hasnt been done in the 2 year ive owened it. Where you get the new filter from?

any motor factor's will sell them fram and bosch are fine both about 4-5 quid. you might also need a strap from citroen blue plastic for 2 quid as they snap.

and the service at garages change from place to place but at work we do not do it unless its asked for.

What about the bit about running the tank empty a few times? i was goin to keep a jerry can in the boot let it run empty then use the jerry can to top it up a few times rather than put it directly into the car if you know what i mean?

Went to 2 local citroen dealers and was told to not bother with the blue straps, instead just get cable ties - cheaper and does the job.

why use cable ties when you can get the part for like 2 quid?

Letting the petrol tank run empty will do more harm than good, because all the sediment from the tank will be syphoned up through your fuel system.

dont run tank empty> all u'll loose is a few drops. and yes in most cases broken strap can nicely be replaced with a cable tie ))

because they said not to bother with them as they snap on every filter change plus its more expensive than cable ties so they didnt stock any for these reasons.

    Steve.
Will the filter not stop that though mate? Just thought it would be best to clear the tank abit before i put a new filter on.

a filter doesnt stop everything passing through, it only takes a very very small size of shite to cause a fuel blockage to the injectors .
change filter when your low on fuel but not empty , like max says you will only lose a few drops
