drive shaft issue!

Just cleaning my car today and I saw oil splutters coming out of my white wheels! At first I thoughts it may be brake fluid but the fact my paitwork still existed reassured me it wasnt. Cv boot looks like its come away.
My question is what is the oil? because the boot coming off doesn't mean oil should pour out...? Or is it grease?
And is it broken now or can I just put a hose clamp on it?
    Cheers fellas

If its the inner cv boot the oil could be coming from the driveshaft oil seal in the gearbox.

its coming from the outer cv boot (nearest the wheel)

Do they fill it with oil? because it smells and has the consistancy of oil.. not grease.. which i would expect for a bearing joint!

So yea, everything is okay at the moment but im waiting for the knocking to start...

    Help please!

Both inner & outer cv joints are filled with grease,i`d look elsewhere for the oil leak.

strange but thats what came out,if its ripped just get a flexy cv boot and cone and slide a new one on.hope this helps.

This happened to me a few weeks ago, I thought it was oil as well but when I got under the car and had a look my clip had snapped and the boot had popped off and chucked all the grease over my wheel and brake disc I just bought a new CV kit for a tenner, included the boot a new clip and a small bag of grease. I put the new grease in and then fitted the new clip and cleaned everything up. It's been fine ever since

Ive done the same though i didnt use a new clip, i went for a strong hose clip and tightened it up a bomb.
Also packed it out with grease.
