Central locking - passenger side door lock & loose drivers seat rail

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

Two questions here really. Sorry for the slightly long post!

First just a quick question which I haven't really thought about before. Had my car for a year now and it has key (no remote) central locking. Unlocks as you'd expect on the drivers side fine.

On the passenger side when turning the key in the lock it only unlocks the passenger side. I've never really thought about it, as the main driver (thus only unlocking the drivers side normally) but I am curious because my Mums 206 passenger side door unlocks all the doors. I can't remember strangely but I'm not sure whether or not the interior plunger only unlocks the passenger door too.

Is this normal and if not how easy is it to fix? Is it just a case of replacing the motor? ... I'm hoping its normal...

Secondly I am in the process (with the immense help of some people, i.e my Dad ) of taking one or two weekends out from Uni and fixing the car up for the MOT which is as soon as this term ends.

Most things are done, but one major remaining issue - and one which will need another weekend - is the left rail on the drivers seat is loose in the floor, i.e the bolts are tight but the rail still has noticeable free-play. We cannot see how to access the fixing points from under the car as they appear to be covered by a 'gutter'. How would one fix this? Welding? Or is there an easier/better way? It is only the front bolt that is problematic as far as I'm aware; and it is a bit awkward as was partly 'fixed' with a botch job which was done by the dodgy trader who we bought it from.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Michael.

I`d much rather have English than text talk any day,but back to the original question as regards the seat either get it welded or take it to the garage who are doing the MOT and ask them is this seat likely to fail the MOT in this condition?

Right, would you weld the rail itself or what the bolts thread into? Do you think that the threads might only need re-threading? And although it's been like it for a while I don't want to risk not doing it, just in case something does eventually happen!

Any ideas on the central locking too?

    Cheers,

You could try taking out the seat bolts & looking at the threads to see if their damaged,if their not then get them welded down.

Okay cool. Unfortunately I'm at uni' at the moment but my Dad might be checking it out at some point in the near future - and if it's a big job I'll be taking a weekend off!

    I'll let you know.

But in the mean time I'm still curious about the central locking. Should I be?

Take the doorcard & sound proofing sheet off the door thats giving you problems & look for a control rod that might have come off.Or any loose wiring.

So the central locking should work from the passenger side too? I'll see if I can look at that too.

    Cheers Steve.

Yes it should I have the same central locking set-up as you do and mine works from either side.

Ok cool. Glad I got that cleared up.

But it still seems to work when you unlock it from the drivers side, i.e the plunger in the door still moves up and down and the door locks and unlocks when it should, and it does the same when you turn the key on the passenger side too it just doesn't do the whole lot from the passenger side, so does this mean it isn't a faulty actuator/motor and is just a loose rod? Or the other way around? Probably the latter knowing my luck!

My Vtr and another 1.1, both mk2's, do the same thing yet my '97 1.1 had full central locking on both doors. I just think its a change they made tbh. Nothing to worry about.

Ah right, okay. My Dad reckoned it was just a Citroen thing. Hoping it isn't an issue with my car. I'll leave it alone then.

I'll get back to you re. the seat rail.

    Cheers,

    Michael.
