1.5d exhaust and fuel pump help

Hi all. New to the site. This is my first post to this site, so any and all assistance would be appreciated.

Having fitted a cone filter to my 1.5 diesel, and noted the definite increase in throttle response, I'm trying to gain information on the exhaust system and fuel pump tweaks fitted by other 1.5 diesel owners.

They're not road rockets, but if there is scope to make them perform more efficiently and still retain 62.85mpg (verified) then i'm willing to have a go....

As an aside, I got this car to replace my Audi 2.8 cabriolet which I wrote off on Xmas eve . I was getting 25mpg from that. Worked out annually, the Pug is £770 to do 8k miles commuting as opposed to £1970 for the Audi.
No comparison in status, I know, but for to and from work - what a saving....

What I did and this was many years ago was swap to a 1.1 petrol. On a slow cruse it's not quite as fuel economical as the diesel. But when on a spirited run it actually got much better fuel economy. I think it's more to do with how under powered the 1.5 is and the fact you had to flog it to death to make it move. Where as the 1.1 was much quicker and flowed at good speed with ease. Cheaper fuel to boot
