Hi guys, i plan on changing my vtr engine for a vts engine. Ive just had a thought about the ignition. Do i need to unlock the vts engine ECU to enable me to use my origional vtr ignition barrel and key? Also, could somebody please explain the reasons for unlocking an ECU. Your help is much apreciated! Thanks, Jamie.

#4Ok mate, i understand what your saying. So that would be something i'd need to look into anyway. Im just unsure if i can use the origional ignition system with the new engine and electronics! Thanks for your help!

#5Ok mate. I know for certain my ECU is not unlocked. What sort of price does the guy charge out of interest? Thanks for the quick replies guys. The sooner i can get things written down and in the clear the better!!

#6If you leave the ignition system etc and fit your engine and ecu then start the car, then disconnect the immobiliser box thats near the interior fuse holders. your ecu will then be unlocked.

#7before you rip everything out, start up the R and take out the plug from the immobiliser. do not plug it back in!Quote:Hi guys, i plan on changing my vtr engine for a vts engine. #9Ok. So by doing this, it will enable me to use my origonal ignition barrel with the new ecu and keep the imobiliser working? I dont want to cut any corners with this conversion. I dont mean to say i dont trust your advice, but if thats the case, why do people still send ecu's away for unlocking at not such a cheap price?
