hey finally got my car back on the road today all was well until about half an hour into driving fan kept kicking in etc so started heading home fan was on for long periods no lights on dash. by time i got just round from my house alot off smoke from the exhaust and then smoke from bonnet so pulled over the water was leaking out the top of the readiator and spilling over the manifold.

Could be your head gasket since you said about the masses of smoke ... Looks like there is pressure building in your system through the exhaust gas ... Happened to me to.

Wave bye bye to atleast 250 quid

well i have been thinking for a wee while now my headgaskets on its way out. but the smoke was only coming from the exhaust when it was coming from the bonnet. when its idle etc its fine and same with radiator. but once i take it for a drive it spills out the cap and onto manifold causing it to steam like mad lol. £250 thats a bitch like but tbf id do anything for the peice of shit to just no give me any problems for a few month lol

Also i noticed theres a knocking noise sometimes when i turn corners etc think its left hand side i got well ripped of buying that car. had it since december and ive drove it for 3 weeks bad times

Sounds like cv joint aswell ... Get under there and inspect the rubber boot. Prob find a tear on it. Quick fix is pack it with grease.

The more you drive the car the worse the HG damage could be. Kill two birds with one stone if it is the gasket ... Change the timing belt too should only be the price of the belt that is added to the bill

aah great. thank fook its my bday on the 3rd looks like any cash will be gettin thrown at that.

and the cv joint should i change it ? surely packing it with grease only temp fix lol
  12. #12
It's a tempt fix but it should cost you much to sort.
  13. #13
You could prob pick up a new engine or the same price ...
  14. #14
Ahh man, you drove it with the temp light on?

Very bad idea... if it got to the point where the Rad actually boiled over, and smoke was coming from the Exhaust, not steam, then I'd say you fried your Engine, rings will be dead, bores won't have much to say and your Pistons will most likely be damaged.

The light is there to say STOP YOU TWAT!

But the amount of people that ignore it amazes me

Anyways, Empty your Rad, make sure the Engine is cold as you NEVER put cold water in a hot Engine, then refil the rad and bleed it, make sure it's well bled, and see if it over heats. If it does, and you have smoke/loads of steam from the Exhaust I'd say your Engine is slightly ill

Cheers for the Input but the fuckin TEMP LIGHT wasnt on!!

    Or i wouldve pulled over!
  16. #16
Has it cut itself off yet ? If not you've prob not done as much damage as I did and mines cost me 260 to fix

Check your oil, is it yoghurty in texture? If it is then It's definitely a head gasket pal

Doesn't always go that way... If his is gubbed I can assure you there will be no mayo showing

You'll prob find the temp light didn't go on is because there has been no water to check it against thus the smoke (burning oil or emulsifying the oil)

Yes, this can happen, as I said if there was smoke, then there will have been damage.
  22. #22
Well luckily enough there wasn't much damage done to mines ... Just the cylinder head needing skimmed
  23. #23
No yogurty texture when i opened the oil cap.

i took it round the block topped it up a bit with water. and just round the block and the fan kicked straight in.

im working at 4am like 5-10mins drive there n back think i will manage taking it. as like 30-40min walk and assed at that time of morning lol
  24. #24
also when i took it round the block no smoke from the exhaust that i could see. and the smoke fom bonnet was just water pissing over the manifold so was steam
  25. #25
Well there's where your water is going ... You HG looks like it's gubbed
  26. #26
haha no good atall car is an absolute raft. first car too and been nothing but trouble since i got it lol

so you think ill get away with taking it to work lol

whats the worst that could happen ? would i do more damage ? haha lazy b*stard a know lol
  27. #27
Fill it with work before you go to work ... If you see the temp go up ... Stop give it five minutes let the fan cool it down.

Make sure you have plenty of water in the car.

What I will say is your responsible for any extra damage you do to the car, don't hold it against me
  28. #28
Haha cheers stevie hope you know how to fix the damage your about to make me do lol

Na arsed walkin down there at 3-4am takes 5mins in the car so will just go for it. 3 litres of water in the car. if it breaks down will phone recovery got full cover. least that way il get a lift home and car taking to the garage haha
  29. #29
You'll prob not do that much damage as I used my car and was traveling well over that.

I won't mention that I drove from Dunfermline to Glasgow... Then used it to daily drive to my work for a few days.... Woopsie
