Rear brakes issue

    Ohhh Haai Y'all

need abit of advice with regards to my rear drum brakes on my mk1 saxo 1.0

Basically i was driving along yesterday, stopped at some lights, pulled up the handbrake and i had lost pretty much all rear brakes (i had maybe 5% of the normal resistance) It was so bad that with the handbrake fully up i could still move the car forwood just by using the clutch in first

Now i Changed the rear pads about 2000 miles ago so i know its not them. The first thing that came to my mind was the cables, so with a mate i pulled up and down on the handbrake but there was definetly pulling inside so im sure the cables are good.

Only possible clue i have is whenever i pull up the handbrake i can hear a weird clicking noise (bit like a ratchet) If that helps.

Would really appreciate any help here as im stumped!

    Thanks
    Harry

    Hello Harry.

I would think it's a problem with your handbrake shoes - to be 100% sure you would need to take the drums off and have a look what is going on (or what isn't) when you put the handbrake on.

Only thing is, it sort of suddenly stopped. As if something has snapped (not the cables) or maybe slipped.

Thanks tho mate, will still check them.

The shoe mechanism is all connected by springs and pins - one of them may have come off. You could jack the back of the car up then spin the rear wheels by hand while someone puts the handbrake on. You should be able to tell where the noise is coming from abit easier.
