saxo vtr problems

Hi all im a new comer to the saxo vtr my name is Nigel i have had several cars corsa red top cavs now currently own a scooby preza sti.
i recently have purchased a saxo vtr just as a run about to save on fuel ect but have a few probs just wondered if theres is anyone out there that could help?

1, is that it was idling high reving just over 1100 rpm and not dropping as i thought it was on auto choke so i changed idle control valve for another second hand one just to see if there is any change there was no change the only change was that when i rev the engine for about 10 seconds the revs stay right up and vacuum hose was realy sucking hard when i put my finger near it the revs would drop quicker any ideas?

secondly i have another problem which i am beginning to believe this might be related to the first issue? when i rev hard driving or stood still it will hunt at 5000 rpm a chuck engine light on for a split second. engine does not die just does it every time u gun it???

I hope someone could shed some light on these two issues it would be much appreciated if u could help Thanks peeps Nigel

Best to have it put on a diagnostics machine as that will read the stored faults which should point you in the right direction. Also did you put the right ICV on as when I had myn done there were about 5 different caps on the end and if its not the right 1 can cause the problem to persist. You could also try taking the battery off for 10 mins to reset the ECU and see if that solves the problem as it may not recognize the new ICV and still be trying to compensate the old 1.

Engine coolent temp sensors make the engine hold its revs high. Try changing this.

When you put the ICV on did you switch the ignition on/off (without starting) 3 times? As this initialises the ICV otherwise you`ll get high revs.
