Important! : Vtr stalling/idle/rev problems, HELP

    2002 MK2 1.6 VTR

Car is losing revs/stalling a couple of seconds after i turn it on, only way round this is unplugging the temperature sensor plug this lets me drive the car but fan is always on! Still has flat spots while driving and sounds lumpy and when i come to a stop the car will stall, i have to keep hitting the revs so i don’t stall. Also noticed I’ve had to top-up the radiator.

    Parts replaced:
    coil pack
    spark plugs
    injectors (From MK1 vtr)
    map sensor
    temperature sensor
Idle Control Valve (replaced one from a MK1 vtr didn’t make a difference so kept mine)
throttle potentiometer (New, didn’t make a difference so returned)
    fuel filter

Also done a compression test on cylinders all working. Had a auto spark at it he couldn’t find a problem, only thing that was strange he couldn’t connect his computer via a 1.6 it wouldn’t connect to ECU but it connected via 1.1 ecu. Unsure if this was just software problem on his end or my ECU is faulty? Iv tried everything i can think off apart from replacing ECU in case that’s the problem.

Cleaned out the inlet manifold, checked all fuses/relays and cables/connectors.

Any ideas would be helpful thanks.

Get your cooling system pressure checked, and open the radiator cap & smell the coolant what you don`t want to smell is petrol fumes because thats a sure sign the head gasket has gone. Are the heaters blowing hot?If not bleed the cooling system.
