Petrol and its RON

Hi All

My boss said that he went to tesco petrol station and noticed that they had 99 RON super unleaded available in Crewe.

I've never seen 99 RON petrol before. Would this be safe to use in a 98 VTR? I read in my owners manual to use 98 RON for best performance. I personally use Tesco/Sainsbury Super unleaded 97 RON as its only 95p - 97p a litre.

LOL yeah perfectle safe to use other wise they wouldnt sell it, you wont notice any difference unless u had a turbo'd beast

Thanks...Sounds like that RON is slowly creeping north after doing some googling!

Maybe worth £10 just to see, but like you say turbo cars would more suit this type of fuel!

I'll probably stick to my 97 RON as its good value for money...95 RON makes it run very sluggish!

it won't make any difference. i put some stuff like that in before, you'd best sticking to normal unleaded. at least our cars don't run on RON 102, now that alot of money.

Crewe is a few miles closer to me than nantwich so im going to start filling up their. (Worth a try if nothing else)

I've been using sainsburys 97 RON from nantwich and i seem to get a better MPG than using 95 RON.

Does this make sense ????

might not make the car faster but its good high quality petrol

ah its not that much expensive

if you needed a new head for your engine would you buy one with no history from a scrappy for £100

or one with history for £150

Thats a very good point

Mind you buying a head with a so called history isnt always the true history. It could be be fucked and a non genuine seller would sell it you as mint when it isnt. Then that person would need his windows sorting out LOL !!!

the ron is the rate at which petrol burns. yes i know it sound silly but the higher the ron the more quickly it burns qive more power per ms. You will of heard of octane boosters these act in the same way by incresing the ron. Only worth the extra money if for track work. 9/5 a complete wast. The down side is that it burns at a hotter temp so then you need full sinthic oil to cope with the temp as ordanry oil will breake down.

Supermarket petrol is usually the same petrol as the likes of shell and esso etc anyway. Its how often they stir the tanks that matters. Thats why you are best going to a busy petrol station

Optimax and Tesco's 99RON won't really make a difference in a VTR to be fair
