SAXO VTR Overheating :S

  1. #1
hey, got a vtr, temp gage in the car is reading its over heating, well its just below the red area but the light is still on, it only did that today for the 1st time tho, but somtimes its wont go up, i can hear the fan turning on and stays on after car has stopped, also there is no warm air coming thru the heaters in the car which makes me think that it might be just the thermostat? not an engine problem? im not very tech minded but know a few things i been speeking to a few people. HELPP

Sound like you have no coolent and most prob no headgasket

Check for mayo looking stuff in the coolent tank

makes me wonder tho because today is the 1st time it has overheated like that....the temp gage before was always on 0 then every now and then shot up to about 3/4 for a minuit or 2 then dropped to 0...

Bleed your cooling system sounds like you`ve got an air lock.

sounds like a thermostat problem like you said mate, take the thermostat out and test it buy making sure its stone cold, tieing a bit of string round it and dipping it in boiling hot water.
If it moves and opens up its not that causing the overheating,
Or you can try taking the thermostat out completely and take the car for a short drive to see if it still over heats.
Other than that it could be an air lock or worst case head gasket like the others said.
Make sure you bleed the water system properly as this can cause all sorts of problems with saxos, I'm sure that there is a guide on here somewhere, have a search mate

As said sounds like it could be a sticking thermostat or an air lock. My VTR currenty sits just below danger zone for temp and thats due to me leaving an air lock too long and not having enough antifreeze - thus buggering cylinder head. But its getting VTS'd on thursday so im not bothered haha
