HELP annoying noise??? gearbox???

  1. #1
    right i have a mk1 saxo 1.1 with a really annoying noise

at first i thought it was the release bearing as start the car dip the clutch and when i come back up get like a juddering sound but goes again if i put the clutch back down.

so i was about to set out and get that and the clutch changed,

    BUT

in the last week or so as i speed up i have like a rattle sound asif something is loose and also a drowing sound when driving which becomes worse when slowing down so now i dont know if theres a problem with,
    wheels bearings
    drive shafts
    gearbox

the car did have a new clutch and apaz reconditioned gearbox fitted to the car around year year and half ago (about 6000-8000 miles ago) have recipt for the clutch work but nothing about purchase of gearbox, garage would have just changed it over if they were supplied with one.

so now stuck what to do?

am i best off to change clutch and release bearing see if it goes away
or shall i change clutch release bearing and gearbox

as need it sorted asap as do like 80-90miles a day going to uni and back .......

havnt got to book it into garage as will be doing the work myself just dont have time to change loads of things one after the other rather only change what i need to.

so any ideas would be so helpful

Sounds like ur driveshaft , the intermediate bearing as this was my problem bud

its passenger side so hard to work out exactly where coming from when driving as tried leaning over in empty car park and nearly hit a bush lol

so a changed driveshaft should fix it then =]

just looked around and someone said that only vtr and vts have intermediate bearings mines a 1.1 so now im confused lol

cud be wheel bearing i thought the release bearing on my vtr was making a racket then i thought it was the driveshaft bearing so i got wheel bearing changed and all was good. do you get vibrations through the wheel when your driving?

Ive Got The Same Problem With My 1.1 Passenger Side Aswell, But I Threatened To Take It To The Garage And It Has Seemed To Of Stopped Now
So I Cant Show My Mechanic The Noise Or Anything At The Moment.
Mine Seems To Appear When Ive Done a Few Miles On The Motorway At About 60-70mph, But Like I Said Not Done It Since =S

i can get my hands on a new clutch and release bearing so debating wether to change that anyways also just realised when i start the car if i move the gear knob towards right (asif going for 5th or reverse) you can hear like a wining noise so thinking release bearing is part of my problem but not all of it .....

when you lift-off and hear the rattle/noise, does it change if you put pressure on the gear stick (but not enough to take it out of gear e.g. a little wiggle). my exhaust mid section is bent, so it comes off the downpipe from the manifold at a slightly odd angle and consequentially i get an annoying rattle that is just the gear linkages fouling on the exhaust. if it's that, you'll notice it's worse in some gears than others.

easiest way to check is jack up the car and get underneath whilst someone changes gear, checking for any foul between the linkages and exhaust.
