linkages hitting decat

  1. #1
anyone got any idea how to solve this problem or encountered it before? gear linkages are hitting the decat and found it hard to go into reverse now gasket is fitted, please help.

Your going to have to jack the car up look underneath & see where it touching, then take the exhaust of the hanger/s & see if you can reposition it using possibly different rubbers.

i had the same problem cos mine is a straight through 2.5" bore exhaust, and just got the grinder and took some off now no problems
  4. #4
what sort of rubbers do you mean matey? Ive got performance ones on at the moment already? would that be ok if i grinded it and at what part? anyone care to explain more as will help me loads
  5. #5
sorry mate lol, i just took abit of the flange that fastens the centre pipe (where the cat should be) and the down pipe cos the linkages and directly about there and when you put it in reverse it wont bang or catch anymore hopefully, just keep tryin till it stops but dont take too much of that it starts to blow
  6. #6
ok mate thank you, just gotta give it a blast haha, does my head in mate
  7. #7
i know pissed me off for ages and exhaust started blowing on downpipe needed a new gasket and while it was down i got giddy with the grinder lol
  8. #8
that the gasket at the front isnt it mate? there isnt one for the back is there pal?
  9. #9
Huuhhh, how can your exhaust hit the linkages? They're miles away
  10. #10

Core, mine are miles away on both cars lol.

could be the decat your using :/ wish mine was as simple as yours is :/

Have a look around different motorfactors etc at the different rubbers they don`t have to be saxo specific.Theres various lengths etc, also the metal hangers on both exhaust and the car can if your careful be bent to adjust the fitment.

Take your time with it and at the end of the day it looks to big a job then take it to a garage.

I have Piper 4-1 with a straight pipe for center section on the MK2 and on the MK1 a Raceland 4-2-1 with a straight pipe, but it has a little bend before the backbox lol.

Undo the flange, so it's free, move the pipe away then bolt it up tight. Job done

You have to remember there is some play in the flange
  22. #22
is it really that simple pal? is that the bit that is close to the manifold?
  23. #23
Check that the lower engine mount isn't on upside down as thats what my problem was , its not obvious my linkages caught like fuck until i did this.
  24. #24
is this an easy fix mate? how you fix that? and how they end up the wrong way round lol?
  25. #25
any help with the last possible causes? anyone like to expand on them, the help i have received at the moment is amazing, thank you all
  26. #26
had same problem a little while ago, went back to standared for abit becasue i killed the last decat on a speedbump.. just got a new one (well off a mate) but it seems absolutely miles away from the linkages compaired to the one i had on there before
  27. #27
thats weird really got scorpion full system, just want to fix this problem up then i will be happy
  28. #28
its got the circle gasket underneath by the mani too as thats the same one that came of with the cat, is that the right one?
  29. #29
found the problem out people for future reference, on the normal cat there is a part of the flange cut out so it misses one of the bars under the car, whereas the decat doesn't have this so my mate took it somewhere for us where they can get it machined down
