Hey got a dvd player yesterday for the car. and not sure how to watch a dvd with engine off without running out the battery.

Engine totally off is obviously a no go

Can i watch it with the ignition turned once so electrics are on ?

basicly i tried watching one but was getting para about battery dien so thought id start it up and run the engine for 5 minutes but when i did this it turned the dvd player off and folded inside. when i turned it back on it was at the start again

So is there anyway i can watch a dvd peacefully without worrying about the thought off walking home haha

just man up, you'll hardly drain your battery, and if you get that paranoid then pack some jump leads

Just watch the DVD at home!

Or re wire it like 'Lippy' has, and if your battery is good it won't go flat.

.. it sounds like you have answered your own question here.

The DVD player was on when then engine wasn't running. So it was on with the key on the first ignition setting? Isn't this how you want it?

It will have turned off when you started the engine because of the drain on the battery with the stater motor, the volts will have dropped to around 8, even if it's just for a second or two. The best way would be to get a second battery and an auto charging kit for it wired just for your ICE, if your wanting to sit watch a DVD.

Well you would need a decent second battery, somewhere to mount it (boot or engine bay) and a split charge relay kit (such as: Autoleads - Split Charge Kit). Wire your stereo (permanent and switched live) to the new battery. This will sort your problems out

Wire it to an Earth point in your car, its currently attached to the Handbrake bit. Any one of the earth points will do.
