HELP DE-CAT PROBS (Pics)

  1. #1

I have just received my decat pipe but it looks a little strange, one end has a flange but the other im confused to where it goes lol

ok flange end goes to your downpipe (Ull need a fire ring gasket for that aswell as a new set of bolts for the downpipe) good luck they are not easy to get hold of!!!!

When i attempted to fit a de-cat system its very very hard to get the downpipe bolts to tighen propperly. we messed it up big time as the bolts strip sooo easily and you can get the wrong size bolts, so ended up taking it to exhaust center to fix.

The lipped edge clamps to your middle box.

Do i need to buy a special clamp for the connection between the lipped edge and the middle box

    Thanks for the info LEGEND
  4. #4
How much did it cost you at the exhaust centre
  5. #5
i wouldnt borther de catting mate its more than its worth really.

Ur call tho bud will make it sound better tho
  6. #6
    Do you have a VTS?

I just had this done last wkend, dont need a 'special' clamp as such for connecting the lip end to the middle section, but i needed a slightly bigger one than the standard clamp. £4.99 from the local car spares.

Used the same bolts to connect the flange end, but had to knock out the rings/washer type bits from the original cat and stick them in the 2 holes in the decat flange (heat them up if they are hard to get out). Hope that helps, its pretty easy really, you'll want some exhaust sealant aswell for the end connecting to the middle section.

you can notice a decat on a vtr mainly at around 5-6k RPM when it kicks in. With a cat in place it feels more restricted. It will be louder without the cat, mine was ear bleeding so didnt last long atall!

Yes the gasket is aspecial type, you cant just buy them from halfords. Its like ameshed ring which slots over that tube sticking out of the flange. exhaust center charged me £10 as i fitted the system but it was blowing due to no gasket!

The car spares place sold me the wrong bolts so they were too long and stripped. becareful i woiuldnt touch that again if i was doing it after mucking it up twice. Might be easier if your using ramps but impossible if you are not.

clamp is just a lipped clamp as said already, which are about £5 from a car spares shop but you cant buy them in halfords. Its not the normal exhaust clamps, its a lipped edge 1. You might be able to use the 1 you take off from the cat!

It's a piece of piss to fit. Just make sure you get everything nice and tight - no leeks. You will probably have to use gun gum or similar stuff on the join to the centre section.

let us know how it goes mate hope u dont getsame problems i did. Thou mine was a full system with a decat already welded in!!! but it was that flange that was a bastard.

the flange end is the bit that sits over the bell shape on your centre section/ the end with the two holes obviously links up to your manifold. you will need to use some exhaust putty between the centre section and the de-cat

  13. #13

phone all parts and ask them.

Can get them from citroen/peugeout for about £3.90
  16. #16
Would the original one be ok to use ??
  17. #17
scott: need your words of wisdom
  18. #18
if its not all rusted to buggery then yes
  19. #19
My original clamp went back on but just wasnt large enough to get a good tight fit, was blowing out a bit. My decat was slightly different from yours though, straighter with a smaller kink.
  20. #20
Plus as Scott says my old clamp was rusted to fuck.
  21. #21
I have just got one of these from Shitroen is this the right clamp

  22. #22
Cheers guys for the help BTW top men
  23. #23
Thats like one of the ones i tried but it didnt give me a great fit, the one i ended up going with was like open ended both sides, like 2 semi circles with a bolt either side if you get what i mean.

But as I say your pipe is different to mine so that may be fine for yours, theres only one way to find out...

this is the type of clamp i was trying to describe!

obviously it wasnt exactly like that one, it was a perfect circle and excellent fit.
