How to fit new Power Steering Pump?

  1. #1
    Hi everyone,

I've heard it is pretty easy but are there any important steps I need to know when replacing my broken power steering pump?

I've got a 2nd hand pump and plenty of tools and power steering fluid. IS it just a case of unbolt old one and bolt in new one?

Do I need to bleed the system?

Any help would be awesome! Cheers

yeah you bleed it by having both front wheels off the ground with the cap off, steer it from lock to lock a couple of times whilst making sure the fluid level is kept at right level

Is that whilst the car is running or not?

Bleed with the engine, and therefore the pump, running yes. Also access from under the car is easier than from above. Might be an idea to put some cardboard over the radiator to save damamging it with the motor/pipes/motor bracket.

Manage to fit this on my own Took about 2 hours in total cos some of the bolts and pipe clip things weren't behaving. When I had the cap off and started her up the fluid shot out and went so high it hit the bonnet! Think it's self bleeding cos bubbles were coming up when I was filling it up.
