    Looking at getting car back on road..

    Had a couple of problems for refusal;
    • 001 Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive
    • 002 Exhaust emissions hydrocarbon content after 2nd fast idle excessive
    • 003 Exhaust emissions Lamba reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

    And also an advisory about a Oil Leak, which is down as dangerous.. But no help on where the leak is from.

    The car hasnt been used properly since July, when the insurance expired. I have taken it up road etc now and then, but someone mentioned to me that this will effect the emissions tests. The leak i am not 100% sure where it is from.. But going off advice i have had before and just looking at it, my thoughts are Cam Seals, or Head Gasket, ive attatched pics below.

    Any help and course of action needed, would be much appreciated.

    Don't think the pics working mate. But yeh you think they would have told you where the actually leak was comming from, and i can't say anything without seeing pic!

    And it does help to give the car a good long run and getting it very warm beofre mot to help with emissions, but I would stick a new (or 2nd) cat on as well just to be on the safe side

    Check the rocker cover for oil leaks,another place saxo`s leak from is the oil filter especially when they`ve gone over the service interval for an oil filter change.

    Head gasket oil leak by the looks of it - so many TU engines leak just above the alternator.

    You cant fail on an ol leak, so they are rifht by advising...and as for telling you, you ecpect the tester to sit there cleaning your engine to find the source of the leak?

    Maintaining the vehicle is the owners responsability!

    I would say £200 - 300 at a garage.

    You need the head skimmed, a new gasket and head bolts fitted.

    the oil leak can be a diy fix rather than the far more expensive garage call. you just need to change the head gasket. mine did the same in the exact same spot only it leaking into the engine.

    there is a good video on youtube of a boy changing the head gasket on a 1.1 106 and is an excellent video if you arent sure on certain things. can be done in less than 3 hours if you dont skim the head or change cam belt

    sorry have no info on emmisions. just wire brush your lambda sensors

    I know of a few people who've replaced the head gasket to solve the leak, without skimming the head - the leak usually comes back in no time at all.

    Have the head checked by someone in the know, and skimmed, if required, to make sure it's perfectly flat.

    Yeah but come on, just out of courtesy you would expect the tester to give a rough idea of where he thinks it's comming from etc, I know I certainly would anyway

    BAD ADVISE!!!!!! if the head is taken off its vary good practice to get it skimmed to make the mating surface perfect otherwise you are more than likely to be changing the head gasket again in the near future and check the condition of the cam belt and when it was last changed if it needs once change it.

    Either source a mobile mechanic, or try and sort out a trailor or something

    cost me 220 to get my engine reskimmed, that should do the trick for you

    Right.. I've been told that there wouldn't be oil leaking if head gasket? And don't have usual signs of this problem. Ive ran half a tank of petrol and some additive that reduces co2.. Thats not worked. I had all exhaust and sensor work done just over a year ago at a garage just over year ago, just before it passed it's MOT there, so surely it passed emissions then?

    Ive put the car up for sale provisionally, if the right offer comes I'll take it.. In the meantime I may look into removing engine and replacing all seals etc myself.. And take car down to the garage I had exhaust problems for the emissions.

    Which seals could of gone on the engine altogether? Causing oil to leak down block?

    And how many factors could contribute towards my emissions.. Exhaust and Cat all pretty new and under warranty..

    The rocker cover seal is a common source of leaks,brush on some Gunk engine degreaser then clean it off.Warm the engine up as with a clean engine you`ll have a better chance of seeing where your leak is coming from.Also good advice from Beford regarding skimming & cambelt change.

    I don't think I can afford to payout for heartgasket and skim I'd it don't need it.. Would my cams contribute towards emissions..

    It got;

    Co2 - 1.163 (limit 0.20)
    HC - 283 (limit 200)
    Lamba - 0.989 (limit 0.97)
