does remapping reduce mpg?

It sounds like a silly question becasue with power comes cost, but im pretty sure on some cars you can even increase the mpg by remapping, as well as the performance (306 hdi) but its probably because its a diesel.

Any advice would be great because im looking at either an s or an r remapped.

    its down to fuel atm...

    cheers

Yes it does on petrol too as you can imagine a cammed cars fueling etc wil be all over the place, so a remap sorts everything out especially if it's a live map but with your bound to want to use your right foot abit more knowing you have more power under it lol

    no it wont reduce mpg

a remap will more than likely allways increase mpg. and it depends what you ask the tuner to do

when my civic was last mapped i had the vtec mapped aggressively for power, and then the lower rpms for economy.

theres no reason why a pug cant be done in the same way, cams normally have a high power band anyway so mapping a car aggressively down low will more than likely make no difference.

what youll find with a remap is that youll prob save more fuel than before in the lower rpms and use more fuel than before (possibly not allways) in the higher rpms so itll balance out.

    awesome, cheers mate.
the car is cammed and remapped but i figured as its increased its power to that of a vts it would decrease mpg, however it does still only have half the valves..

i was never sure on remapping but if it has been done right im on for a winner
