i was driving yesterday and just glanced over to the temperature gauge and it was all the way up so i pulled over couldnt see any visual problems so waited for it to go down halfway started driving again and just stayed at 3/4 of the way prior to this i had an hour an a half journey the night before and everything was fine?

#2Check you have enough coolant in the system 1st if you haven`t then top up & bleed the system.

#3Hmm, strange, a friend of mine (Munkyboy) had this problem a little while ago, his car over heated and blew the rad cap off, he parked in a car park, I came to help and it was fine, and still is... The only thing I can think of is an air lock, then it cleared itself and came out of the cap...
As said, check your water, and make sure it's air free!
