#2Did you buy a battery with a decent cold amp crank ?
-
#3Yes its a 440 heavier duty halfords job!
-
#4You tried distributor cap? Take the cap off, see if theres any corrosion on the arm. If there is, some fine wet/dry sandpaper to clean it up.
My Golf did have the same problem with cold starts and it turned out to be the dizzy cap getting damp inside and corroding the arm. -
#5It doesn't have a distributor cap does it ! ? !

#6COuld be the ICV? I had a similar problem which was found to be the ICV.
-
#7Sorry but what is the ICV ?
-
#8Idle control valve = icv
Take it out and clean it see if that works clean the throttle body while your at it -
#9A ha; I did replace this part about 2 years ago because the engine was running very erratically. I will take it off and have a look at it thanks!
-
#10You could also try the coolant temperature sensor too as that made my old vtr idle badly and cut out and not start well
Good luck dude -
#11Thats the green screw in sensor to the right on the block; I replaced that too quite recently but I will take off and clean as well. Many thanks for your advice; I know what I will be doing this morning!!
