Apologies if its old ground but my 1.1 saxo saxo won't start when the weather is cold in the morning. With the sun on it no problem later. I have changed the plugs and ht leads;got a new battery and checked all the obvious connections but what I want to know is there any specific problem related to my described symptoms cos its driving me barmy now!!

Did you buy a battery with a decent cold amp crank ?
  3. #3
Yes its a 440 heavier duty halfords job!

You tried distributor cap? Take the cap off, see if theres any corrosion on the arm. If there is, some fine wet/dry sandpaper to clean it up.

My Golf did have the same problem with cold starts and it turned out to be the dizzy cap getting damp inside and corroding the arm.

COuld be the ICV? I had a similar problem which was found to be the ICV.

Sorry but what is the ICV ?

    Idle control valve = icv

Take it out and clean it see if that works clean the throttle body while your at it

A ha; I did replace this part about 2 years ago because the engine was running very erratically. I will take it off and have a look at it thanks!

You could also try the coolant temperature sensor too as that made my old vtr idle badly and cut out and not start well

    Good luck dude

Thats the green screw in sensor to the right on the block; I replaced that too quite recently but I will take off and clean as well. Many thanks for your advice; I know what I will be doing this morning!!
