Is there much difference?
Fuel Economy VTS v VTR

#2drive sensible and no

#3I would tend to disagree purely based on figures posted in this forum previously. If you have a search you will hopefully find what your looking for, however, bear in mind that as Blackie has said already a lot depends on how they are driven and of course if they are maintained well. You will be looking at around 7mpg difference which does not sound a lot but when you consider a full tank is 10 gallons that 70 miles more every fill up.
If you don't mind the extra for fuel though the VTS engine is a little cracker and is way quicker than a std VTR. -
#4a big difference imo
-
#5I've a VTS with a VTR box on, I have never had it below 40mpg, normal figure for me is 45mpg, thats with 50mph(6 mile single trackroad) & 60mph A-road(9 miles)to work, gunning it off all the roundabouts, I never sit in traffic though.
-
#6a noticeable difference id say
-
#7I was interested to know what sort of mpg people were getting out of their VTRs mine seems to drink the petty..is there a thread on MPG? Ive done a serach and its returned nothing
Cheers -
#8my 99' vtr does 35-45 mpg
-
#9I owned a VTR then a 106 GTI (same engine as VTS) and the fuel consumption (same driving style) is about 20-25% more in my experience
If I drive conservatively on the motorway, I can scrape 38mpg in the GTI
Usually I get about 30mpg combined -
#10Always get 40-45mpg in my vtr and thats 25 mile round trip every day.
-
#11Something is wrong with your GTi dude.Quote:I owned a VTR then a 106 GTI (same engine as VTS) and the fuel consumption (same driving style) is about 20-25% more in my experience

You can 45 mpg no probs if you hold it at 70 mph. -
#12I get 42 mpg from my VTS doing ~35 miles a day if I take it easy. Similar driving in my VTR was giving me 45 - 46 mpg.
-
#13I did the sums wrong, its actually about 36mpg I get but I do a lot of town driving.Quote:Something is wrong with your GTi dude.

I filled up £55 of fuel at about £1.30 per litre and got about 320 miles out of it
I have a decat and pugsport exhaust but no other engine mode as far as I am aware. As soon as I put my foot down, I can almost see the petrol gague needle going down lol
I didn't even get 45mpg in the VTR -
#14Such mixed views here, was asking because im moving soon which means a 80 mile round trip to work and back everyday, I currently have a VTS with full stainless steel & decat and £50 gets me 310 miles which means alot of fuel every week, looks like im gonna be getting a furio at this rate!
-
#15ahhh I thought you meant purely motorway driving. Yeah round town it sucks. I think I got 17 mpg once just from short drives and town driving (no macho shit either)Quote:I did the sums wrong, its actually about 36mpg I get but I do a lot of town driving.

Mine is not too dissimilar to your setup. mani, decat, magnex centre and backbox. The only downside is the xsi box I have which munches my fuel on the long runs
-
#16I think mine is a VTS box, it sits at nearly 4k revs at 70mph though which seems to eat through the fuel more......am thinking it may be another box variantQuote:ahhh I thought you meant purely motorway driving. #17Buddy my VTS 16V it amazing on fuel, driving around town uses nothing! Great
But.....
As soon as I get on a motor way in drinks like a 10L truck
and that's no lie

#18Not being funny but I got 176 miles to 15 litres of fuel which worked out at 53.34mpg that was country road driving and motorway driving we got 325miles to 35 litres which works out at 42.21mpg - 2003 Saxo VTR
-
#19The VTS revs much higher, prob how I end up eating through petrol
I barely drive mine so am fairly heavy footed when I do lol
Think the rev limiter is about 7250 in mine as well -
#22Xsi box without a doubt
-
#23my VTS was crap on fuel but was fun, I refer to it as smiles to the gallon as its much more fun
-
#25no probs at all... although we've nicely derailed the thread some whatQuote:Hmmmmm what would the VTS be revving at 70mph then?
Will an XSI box cause any issues?
Cheers mate
3600 rpm for a standard VTS box at a genuine 70 mph.
It sounds very much like an s1 box in fact, 4k rpm is around a true 68 mph. 72 mph for a 1.4 xsi box.
Differences... worse mpg on motorways, it's actually not too bad around town because you can make your way into a higher gear than you could on the vts box. Faster in gear acceleration though. woop woop. -
#26Yeah we seem to have somewhatQuote:no probs at all... although we've nicely derailed the thread some what

Ahh I see well its definitely not 3600rpm at 70mph
Will test it tonight to see if its more likely an Xsi or S1 box
Either way, it doesnt really matter as I dont drive it much and vary rarely on the motorway
