Important! : Tapping M10 hole when fitting raceland 4-2-1

  1. #1
Just been out and got everything I need to fit the 4-2-1 manifold, but I'm not sure how to tap the oil return hole.
I've bought a tap and die kit, so do I just use the m10 tap and screw it into the hole to make the threads for the bolt or do I need to drill the hole to make it bigger and then tap it?

there will be a hole mate witch to you need to take the m10 tap and sreaw into th engine block to make a thread then you sreaw the m10 blot you have bought ans sreaw it it:Y:

what you do is get the tap started, once your started it's fairly easy just make sure you dont snap it, you do about 1 turn and wind back about a turn to get all the metal crap out. i bought a set for 17 quid from screwfix and it was complete shit. would not get started at all, so i thought fuck it ill try an ebay jobby. THIS is a lot better tap than what i had even though it's alot cheaper, give it ago, it isn't hard at all. but it's not my fault it it dont work or fucks up just personal experience

If the tap wont go in, drill it out to with an 8.5mm drill bit and then the M10 tap should work fine.

Remember to take your time and like above 1 to 2 turns then one back to break the swarf otherwise the tap could break.

what pitch thread is the tap?
i work in engineering, so know all about taps etc.

make sure the hole is the correct size before trying to tap

way you can work this out is -

say you wanted an m10 hole, all you have to do is take the pitch away from the size tap.

so (m)10 - 1.5 = 8.5mm. and thats what size you should drill it.

works throughout standard tap sizes, but fine threads are different,

and also put some oil on the tap when tapping it, will help it cut loads
