  1. #1
    Hello,
I am looking at buying the saxo in the link below, the deal with the car is it hasn't been driven for the last 6 months and sitting on the fellas drive. I am looking at it on Sunday and just wondering what should I be looking out for, e.g brakes, lights etc. Also how much do ye think the car is worth as I need to make him an offer. Cheers Trev

i would say £600 at a push, reasons being no MOT & tax and doesnt look like its been looked after. main things with a saxo to go wrong are rear beam, ICV and from what ive heard is also manifolds. Have you asked if it starts up fine and what not?

the fella told me that the car wont start as the battery is f**ked, he also said he hasn't tried to start it as all he wants is it gone,(note the green mould on the rear bumper).

    thanks Trev

If you can get one of those battery jump start things take it and get it started. Wouldn't buy it unless you can start and drive it.

As said idle control valve and rear axle are the main things I would look for.

Not really sure how you check the ICV other than drive and if the idle is lumpy when stopping at lights etc chances are it's done.

For the rear axle either listen for a pinging noise over bumps like milk bottles banging together, stand well back and look at the angle of the back wheels shouldnt be slanted in at the top or jack the back wheel up and try move it in and out from the arch. If it moves a lot the axle will need changed.

Then the usual check the oil cap for white stuff (oil and water mixed) and smell the coolant for petrol fumes. Either of those is a sign of a dodgy head gasket.

make sure all the elcectrics work, windows, wipers, lights etc. put them on and listen for any noise from the alternator belt

If you do view it get under the car & look for any serious signs of corrosion.

    £300 at the most.

also if he says he wants it gone he should take anything you offer.

id take a spare battery if i was you, a jump pack wont start a stone cold dead battery
