about to start touching up! HELP

  1. #1
Just went to Halfrauds to pick up a tin of Quartz silver paint...

i have got colour coded bumper strips.

but they was already done when i bought the car...

i have never sprayed a car before. i have done wheels and that, but guessing its not the same.

i have also got a tin of plastic primer, and a tin of lacquer, sand paper and masking tape...

is it still the same procedure?

sand until smooth, primer, sand until smooth, primer again, sand until smooth, wet and dry, then paint, then lacquer?

wanna start doing it 2night really, but not gonna start until i am clear i know what am doing!

All i did is sand off shine, spray primer, few coats (was normal primer btw pmsl) than i did a few blue coats, lightly sanded the blue once it dried, light sand, blue again iirc and laquared away. It looks spot on considering i did it in the yard on a sunny day.

No flaking a year on considering i used the wrong primer.

    Indeed.

I sprayed a few coats and light sanded the blue and sprayed over again lol. I have no idea if i was doing it right but it worked out for me lol.

Yeah it was fairly easy, i was more worried of spraying too much and getting runs. and the wind blowing shit on the wet paint

Yer, runs are a fucker. learnt that the hard way when i done my wheels, my old cyclones, i finsihed them all, they looked mint, was ready for lacquer, then decided i had some black left so i would give them all another coat. ended up over doing it and got runs on the all. had to sand back down and do all over again!!!

    bastards!

yer am gonna be doing it outside aswel... will have a crack 2night!!!

    thanks for the help John

dont do it to late, as the temperature will drop, making more moisture in the air, which will affect the way the paint dries !

ahhh good point. might just sand down 2night then., and spray it at weekend. see how it goes. its nice weather here though.

i could always get the old heat gun out, speed up the process!

+1 to that if you do paint in cold temperatures you won`t get a good shine to the paint.

i honestly wouldn't even bother trying to paint silver bump strips out of a aerosol will dry darker and wont shine at all with no depth of gloss.

    Steve.
yer, had a long think about that yesterday. decided to just get it sanded and primed during the week, after work for an hour or so until its dark, then at weekend if its sunny, get out there and do it.

cheers for the help. will let you know how its gone!

    what you reck about this...

i hit a bollard whilst creeping forward... now the flake of paint has come off... could i spray this section also? or would that not work?

would i have to re-spray the hole bumper or could i just fill in that bit?

You`d have to flatten it down then scim some plastic filler over it then flat down the filler. Then plastic prime followed by top coat finishing with lacquer, but just doing that bit would not blend in with the rest of the paintwork so you`d be looking at spraying the whole bumper.
