What is a upper strut brace?

  1. #1
I have noticed some of these on some cars, and just wanted to ask what they actually do?

    Thanks Dan

It firms up the whole car, it adds rigidity to the shell, reducing flexing when you're driving hard, helping the suspension do its job

does anything have to have been done to it? or will it still help on a standard car?

Well if your going to be driving hard there worth it, if you dont then tbh aint much point, ive had them on fair few cars ive owned & i can tell a diff tbh

No worrys chap, you going to get one?
i think for £40 quid it doesnt seem a to bad of a buy,
Deamon Tweaks are selling them at £100 whats a slight rip off :/
but you can defo tell the diffrence with them on & they fill the engine bay up a lil more whats a plus side

is it the same as a normal front strut brace?
is there any need to say 'upper'?
i have just bought one if is what i think it is and they look really good under the bonnet.
with standard suspension tho there is not much difference but in hard cornering there is
best to be used with lowering springs

Yes as there is an upper and lower brace.

upper strut brace goes under the bonnet
lower strut brace goes under the car.

J222JRA you beat me to it lol

Also upper is pointless on soft suspension lower does a lot more but it does reduce ground clearance
  13. #13
ok i have just leanrt alot about strut braces, i thought there was one for front and one for back but i was wrong
  14. #14
Seeing as you dont have any struts at the rear of the car, youl wouldnt be able to fit one.

As AlexB said, not much use for it as softer suspension will soak up any bumps before the chassis starts to flex.

When I had a sparco upper brace on my vtr with standard suspension it felt a bit better but hardly noticable, the bottom one made a bigger difference, get yourself a bottom one

  22. #22
ano sorry mate, aint many pics on the net to show where there connected to, have a look on some threads on here or post a thread about how to fit them, im sure someone will be able to help you out
  23. #23
im sure they will i keep trying search button but it doesnt always bring up what u want ill just keep researching so i dont get stupid replys like 'search' haha
    thanks anyway

    haha, no worrys

Basically the lower strut brace mounts where the front chassis legs are. This is the wishbone mounting point. As the 106 does not have a lower subframe it makes a big difference apparently.

As above, it bolts to the wishbones. Only two bolts to fit it, can be a bit fiddley though

i know you can get the rear for most cars, but i did not even look when i had my saxo so just assumed
