Fans on VTR

I did ask this in another sect but got nowhere..soooooo

I have a switch in drivers side footwell for the fan

the fan doesn't come on automatically as the tubing has been cut in the engine...why I have no idea!!

it needs sorting pronto

So my question is (and it will sound dumb) the fans on these do operate normally don't they? just seems as though someone's really bodged it right up.

If the fuse or actual fan has gone I can go get new one - or at least one from scrappies no worries.

I am due to travel down to Portsmouth next week and don't want any probs with it on way down.

Any ideas as to why the switch was installed or clues would be great

Possibly a wiring problem a fan motor that stop working resulting in burnt wiring,yes the fan on a saxo works just like any car once the temperature gets to a certain level the fan kicks in.
