Best beneficial box for acceleration in a VTS?

  1. #1
My gearbox has to come out my VTS 16V soon & I would like to no what's the best box too replace it with, am looking for pure acceleration.

    Peugeot S1 106 Rallye box?
    Or
    Peugeot S2 106 Rallye box?

    Thanks guys

s2 is the same as a vts, s1 would be better, good luck finding one tho, and there are loads of people selling 1.1 gearboxes as rallye ones so be careful

106 xsi box could also be benificial

First on the VTS box is already very low and the S1 box will give you a rather unusable first. The VTS has a more usable top gear for normal road speeds. So for most peoples requirements the VTS box is the better option.

S1 then, then 1.4 XSI, but s2 or vts will be good.

I think you will find the s2 rallye box is actually different to the 16v box and noticable too

With the s2 rallye and 16v box you will notice a fair difference, I've driven with both boxs on my 16v rallye, one after the other as the 16v box lost 2nd gear.
And I noticed quite a lot of difference, it doesn't look much on paper? But looking at the revs you can see the difference and can definatly feel it too.

The 1400xsi box is a great box I've driven with that too and it's a greatbox for acceleration and to drive with down the lanes and im sure it's a great box for track (I havnt been on track with a 1400xsi box so couldn't give a definate answer) but if you drive the car daily and on the motorway it isn't exactly practical it is fine to do that but occasionally can get a bit annoying and loud especially if your doing 70mph cause you'll be sitting at 4k rpm. But it's one of them ones where some people can put up with it some can't, I was one that thought it was fine, but now driving an s2 box I do think it's one of the bette options for the best compramise between cruising speeds/general driving and decent accleration. Obviously that's all just my opinion since ive used them boxs but others may vary lol.

It's a great box from what ive heard, But is shorter than the 1400xsi box
I personally think it's more of a gearbox for a car being drove couple times a week for bit of fun an if your doing the odd track day maybe, I just think it can probably get a bit tedius driving it as a daily, I've never experienced one so can't comment into too much detail, but I think it is a very short box, 1400xsi will be spot on, or if the car is driven daily s2rallye/1600 xsi will be the better box Imo
I drove with the 1400xsi and must admit sometimes I did get a bit bored of it vauseyoud have to do like 55mph-60mph to do a decent rpm that doesn't make yout ears bleed on a motorway journey and decent mpg (I still got 40-45 on a regular basis with my vtr even with breather mods) but it was awesome on a nice drive down the lanes. So it's a tough compromise
