Clunk clunk cluck! Drives me mad!!!!!

    Hi people,

I own a saxo vts and it has developed an annoying clunk sound!

It only happens when I'm pulling away fast or if I let off the accelerator, it sounds like it's coming from the drivers side front wheel, but here's a list of everything I've tried so far but still no joy

    Brand new drop links
Brand new driveshafts on both sides
    Top 2 engine mounts
    Powerflex lower engine mount
    Powerflex anti roll bar bushes
    Powerflex wishbone bushes

I even double check the exhaust brackets. The discs and pads are fine there's no movement in the wheel when it's jacked up either. I was wondering wether something could be wrong in the gear box. But to be honest I've kind of given up hope, I took it to a mate who's a mechanic but he couldn't solve it

    Anyone

Ah so what? They went to far in to the hub mate?

And ball joint was fine-ish when I put the wishbone bushes in last week. But might aswell change them both anyway

What on a week old brand new shiny driveshafts??

It was making the noise before I put the new driveshafts on it, and they were £126 euro car parts

    Did you get this sorted?

i got the same clucking sound, when releasing the clutch to fast.

looks like its from the gearbox out to the driveshafts that has a play, but that seems wierd..

    How's your spring cups?

Check there's no cracks around where it meets the leg is there?

Although, there'd be more noise I suppose than just when pulling away/letting off..

Got Another sound aswell, sounds like somethings loose when drives over bumps, almost like stabilizer Rod (if thats the right Word..) but theyre New.

and at full lock right or left i can get a loud bang..

    top mount bearing...

Pull carpet up in the footwell and make sure the wishbones are tight.

I've got a clunk noise and I've checked everything like u have. I have now found that it's the drivers door making the noise. Im going to replace the check strap and door hinge bolts to see if it's stops.

Could that make the clonk/clucking sound, when release the clutch to fast?

i have to release it very Gentle to avoid the clucking, sounds exactly like a bad Engine Mount, like the Engine moves. But theyre New, except the gearbox one..

Yes I'd be peeling up the carpet and checking the rear bolts for the wishbones.

They have to be torqued up spot on, if not they can move in the "slots" and will clunk.

It could be it's tight for light loads, but when you're raggin it there's more force to move them.

Or as above, could be strut top bearings as well.

    They sound most likely.

read a thread on here i think ages ago about the nut that secures the shock absorber ???? u have to remove spring to get to it? loads of people had the same problem and it was all down to this nut

    Ahh it's a big nut.

You can get to it by just jacking the car up. you can get a plumbers wrench between the spring because iirc it's a special tool you need ideally for tightening it up.

So, the sound i get is in these videos below.

I Think the left shaft is a Lil worn.. But is it supposed to move that much Into the gearbox, when i turn it by hand in the video?

and then u can hear the sound, the same sound, when i release the clutch a Lil to fast (aint really fast tho..)

First movie, i pushes the car back and forth in 1st gear.

Second movie, check for play, left one i can push up and down, and can turn it quite much before it engage in the gearbox, normal? Can hear the sound when i turn it a lil faster/harder, sounds same as the last movie.

    Third movie, the sound..

In the last video, that sounds like the gearbox when it has no oil in it or it's damaged, it can make noises like that.

The inner CV joints allow the shaft to move in and out. that's normal. shouldn't be clicking with that movement although the shafts used to rattle like that in my 1.5D and they never made a noise on full lock or when taking off. been through 2 MOT's as well and never picked up excess play (£30 ebay shafts, 34,000 miles on them)

I would try new driveshafts first. as it's less of a pain to change than a gearbox
