First step on the turbo ladder

  1. #1
No not your average pipe dream thread, its turbo time for this little beauty

the majority of parts are sourced, just looking to confirm what I'm doing and check a couple of bits

Vtr block under an ax gti head, inlet etc etc (rallye inlet one day).
    306gti-6 injectors
    Vtr fpr
    Walboro 255 pump
    1mm decomp plate

Turbo kit has been sourced from gav (sadako) and just need an oil cooler I think

Fuelling by dastek piggyback with boost module from tweeqd, boost controller by a manual controller from a mate

Place local to me will map it

We're talking the first step on the ladder, small t2 turbo using fairly low boost to get things running

My plan is literally to get all the parts together, bolt it all up, wire in the dastek. I don't need a list of the little niggly bits like bolts and that, and the turbo kit is Pretty complete, I just need to know if I'm missing anything blatant

Plus, once bolted together, I expect it's not going to run off the cuff. I expect to have to get it transported to the mappers who would then load a base map get it running then map properly. Correct?

Total cost what with selling off the old 16v conversion and other bits of swapsies will be under a grand, so suggestions to nigh on double that with expensive standalone and loom not required ta

Good luck mate, plans sound good!
  3. #3
An uprated clutch, and a non restrictive exhaust bore
  4. #4
you want a cheap afr gauge?
  5. #5
Would be handy ry, hit me up some costs

Current exhaust has minimal restriction, loud as fuck and current setup made good power
Will look into a better clutch, cheers

All sounds good. The Dastek used to only be able top be mapped by a dealer so best to find one local who can do the full setup for you. Unless some one has hacked it now?
  7. #7
the car will run and drive as is but will need to drive it off boost or get tim with his trailor
  8. #8
The mapper near me will apparently map anything, hes mapping a friends ax 1.4 turbo and mapped tweeqd's old one, both on dastek (same setup incidentally)

Cheers gav, to run it off boost would you jam the wastegate open? Probably easiest to get it trailored, only half hour up the road

or take the boost pipe off

Just don't forget to disconnect the actuator arm as well. If you don't the actuator stay closed as it will not see any boost then and the turbo will be spinning at ten billion rpm :O

Lol would be funny though, potential waste of a turbo though ha

just drive it with the dastek unplugged and the boost pipe not connected to the throttle body

if your on about track and road thats not where i had the cars mapped, mine are mapped in andover at a company called millway, he is one of the best dastek mappers in the uk but is a long way from you

id phone steve at T&R to check he can map them (tims is going back to andover, and its nolonger tims trailer )

Ah my bad, no problem I'll speak to Steve, if not I should be able to get it down to Andover no problem
