Important! : Steering rack - expert advice needed

  1. #1
My steering rack is on the way out. I have been thinking about converting it to non-pas for a while but I want to be clear on a few things first.

    - Is it best to convert a pas rack into a non-pas rack rather than trying to get a non-pas rack from say a 1.4 non pas model to fit?

    - Will castor angle be an issue with a modified pas rack and whether or not I choose to lower my suspension later on i.e knocking when turning on full-lock etc

    - Will it pass mot with a modified pas rack?

    - The Pas could easily be refitted if needed?

    - Will removal of the pas trigger the ecu light on the dash?

    - How much roughly am I looking at for a new/reconditioned pas/non pas rack?

Expert advice only. rep given for the answers I'm looking for

Use your pas rack and convert.

Non pas racks in your car will rub on full lock and fail MOT.

Keep your caster the same positions.

The pas rack can be easily re-fitted, you only remove the ram and pipe work from the pump.

Removal of the pas has no role with the ECU therefore will not trigger the MIL light.

Cheers How much am I looking at roughly for a new pas rack which I would be converting to non pas. The non pas racks from 1.1's for instance are half the price but more trouble than is probably worth trying to fit it.

1.1 are cheaper becuase there non pas so won't come with the ram.
I got a pas rack from a VTS laying here if you want it?

How much would you take for the VTS rack? Is there any noise at all? I may be interested I'll get back to you by Wednesday if that's ok

Also to convert the pas rack I would need some nuts/bolts to go in the holes in place of where the pas pipes go. What size are they/do citroen perhaps sell them?
