anyone want to help a damsel in distress?! i was driving, just about to join the motorway, got on fine, reached around 45mph and went to change to 5th gear, however when lifting my foot from the gas i heard a horrible noise, its hard to explain exactly what it sounded like but it didnt sound too healthy! so i tested it by easing off the gas at around 60mph and it did it again, when foot is down the noise isnt there, everytime i lift my foot off and im doing 40mph or more the noise comes back!
help!!!!

#2Are we talking a knocking noise, squealing, crunching, metal on metal?
-
#3sort of a grinding noise, there is also a squeaking noise which someone said maybe a belt?
x

#4Does it happen when you dip the clutch or get louder at all when the clutch is dipped or even when your foot is taken off?
-
#5just seems to happen when i realease from the gas, as soon as i put my foot back on it stops sorry to be a pain lol x

#6Its no problem I like problem solving
. Anyways I can narrow it down to either gearbox, driveshafts or wheel bearings. Do you hear any other noises while driving normally say going round corner or full lock or just higher speeds?
-
#7no other noise apart from the possibly belt (which someone suggested) nothing going round corners or on full lock, just at speed 40mph or over
-
#8That really rules out wheel bearings and CV joints then I'd have your driveshafts and gearbox checked out tbh as it sounds like it could be 1 of those if anything. As for the squealing could be an over tensioned or worn fan belt.

#9thank you

#14any idea how much im looking at?
typical girl when it comes to cars
x

#15Depends on garage labor charge and also part cost. Best thing to do ring a few garages and get an estimate shouldn't be too much as its only an hour job max of 2 if there are complications. Also cheers for that Dom helped me back up 1 of my theories at least lol.

#16thats not to bad then mums other half is a g-whizz with cars but couldnt get hold of him today! im guessing its not safe to drive till its sorted?!
x
-
#17You could but if it starts to get worse just park it up until you can get it done if you dont need to drive it then dont just be careful when you do.
-
#18Its perfectly fine to drive for the next 6k miles with it like that, I did 10k with a shaft after that iirc, after 8k miles it started to shake the wheel and crunch and grind going in a straight line. Its safe to drive, don't worry

#19oh right... thats good then! i dont drive it to much anyway, just for shopping, dont think i will risk it thought as got small baby to think of but thank you for all your help, ill know where to come if i get any more problems!! xx
