brake lights cancel out rear lights

hi guys, new member as I am the proud owner of a new saxo.

Been looking around and I cant find anyone with the same problem, basicly the rear night lights work and the brake light works (same bulb), but when the night light's on and the brake is pressed it cancels out the light and the bulb goes off (instead of going doubly bright). this is only on the left side. additionally on the same side when the fog lights are on, pressing the brake will cancel both the night and the fog light on the left.

the bulbs both look fine but i will replace them anyway, is it possible that the circuit board is dodgy and if so will a clean up sort it or will i be looking at a new one?

i may be on here quite a bit in the near future as there are several issues with her. thanks for any help.

Corroded connections on the circuit board can cause this,as can a cracked circuit board.

Hello

Sounds like a typical earth fault to me. Make sure the circuit board is clean and rust free. In the end, you might be better just replacing the whole board. It will be cheap enough from a scrap yard.

i had the same problem, had to change the bulb holder/circuit board

my mates gti does this. had a load of water in the light and the circuit board is all corroded so i guess its that

thanks for the quick replies guys. seems like it ll be the circuit board so ill give that a look and a clean tomorrow when i've got some light.
