Engine light

    I was wondering if my engine light should be on when i turn the key all the way just before starting up the engine? Its not on when the car is running, does this mean I have a problem or does it just come on like that anyway? My car idles badly sometimes and I was just wondering if this could mean one of my lambda sensors have gone? cheers

    The Engine Management Light is designed to come on with ignition then turn off when the engine is running. Only if it comes on with the engine running is there a fault detected. Bad idle is probably down to the Idle Control Valve which probably needs cleaning or replacing. This normally doesnt bring on the EML.
