What do you mean restart mate?

You can reset - 30 mins with battery disconnected

You can do that but if there are any fault codes on the ecu (I assume this is the reason you want to Ecu?) they will still remain there regardless of how long you leave the batt disconnected or Ecu unplugged, and even if you go for a remap and there are fault codes there, they will still remain on the ecu

The only way to really get rid of them is to use some form of diagnostics or fault code reader, but not all readers can delete the codes.

Also why are you wanting to reset the Ecu?

Does curing the fault that the code relates to not, stop the code appearing?

not always, sometimes it may clear over time after the fault has been sorted but it is not often it does this, the car will still run normal when it has been changed but the code will remain on the ecu untill it is removed even if the faulty sensor has been changed

a good example is a freinds car i did diagnostics on at the weekend, he used a 2nd hand ecu from another freinds car but all the sensors on his car were fine and some brand new i.e the map sensor, how ever on the ecu i found there was fault codes for map sensor, tps, icv, now all these fault codes were problems that ere on the previous car and that had changed sensors too, but we knew that none of these codes had ome from the current engine due to them being new, so i just deleted the codes and they havnt come back since, but i also did a live data run and everyhing added up too all sensors read the right readings, so it was clearly just left over fault codes from the previous engine
so they will always remain on an ecu untill removed

so even though the car will run normal they will still be there in the background

hope this makes sense lol, diagnostics is always hard to explain but when youve done them enough and have the right equipment it does become quite simple tbh

I kindof expected that, the manufacturer doesnt care about saving the end user some time and trouble. Does depriving the ecu from voltage reset it? What does it reset and does it have internal battery or capacitors that merit unplugging it for a lenght of time?
