Ok, I know theres alot of threads on this and I have searched but im still not sure. but what I do know is its not the ICV because ive changed it for a new one and its still the same. My car sometimes idles badly the needle will jump up and down around the 1000rpm mark going under and over it, it happens when stopping in traffic, when starting up after filling up with fuel, stopping at junctions etc.. sometimes it cuts out if i dont correct it by pressing the accelorator a bit. What are all my options for it to be? what is it most likely to be? any1 else had this same problem? thanks
Important! : Idle problem..

#2Poor idling is a very common problem mate. Does it misfire, ie driving along and you floor the accelerator it'll judder/pause?
Off the top of my head it could be:
Engine Temperature Sensor (could well be this even if the temperature dial on the dash is working okay)
Lambda Sensor
Coilpack - unlikely
Mass Air Flow Sensor - unlikely
Throttle Position Sensor - most unlikely imo -
#3It never had problems with misfiring runs pretty smooth really its just the idling its been doing it for a while now didnt bother me too much at 1st but its gettin kinda annoyin when its cutting out in traffic etc.
-
#4Oh and if its a lambda sensor does the engine management light come on? if so i could rule that one out coz thats not on, cheers
-
#5The only thing i can think of that would cause idle issues but no misfire is the icv...
(and i've had my fair share of engine issues lol)
Was it a brand new one icv you put in? I've had to replace a brand new one that i bought and fitted within 6 months before...
The lambda might put on the EM light but if its only sometimes that you get this bad idle then it wont be on constantly. -
#6saxos don't have MAFS, they have MAP.Quote:Poor idling is a very common problem mate. Does it misfire, ie driving along and you floor the accelerator it'll judder/pause?

lambda will bring the ecu light up.
try the ecu coolant sensor -
#7Yeah it was a brand new one same part number and everything, could it be the map sensor? I think i might try cleaning out the throttle body aswell see if it helps
-
#8Same thing
measures how much airs going into the plenum
If the lamda's not working properly all the time then it will show up but if its intermittent then sometimes it doesn't light up. mine didnt when it was causing a misfire on an old vts
Cleaning the TB won't do any harm certainly. Be careful when cleaning the sensors though and just make sure they're all re-connected properly (not loose or anything)Quote:Yeah it was a brand new one same part number and everything, could it be the map sensor? Doubt it'd be the map sensor, fowks problems never usually come down to that. -
#9try a new ecu coolant sender first.
-
#10Ok cheers ill try that, how much are they? (ish)

Im pretty sure the ecu one is the green plugged one. -
#12thanks ill check it out tommorrow
hopefully it will be that, if not i suppose its not too expensive and can rule it out if its not that
-
#13Mine is doing this and electrical problem with it I'm sure it's lamba sensor
-
#14Check your fuel and oil filters mate. when was the last service?
-
#15got the same problem have changed ever sensor over and still not fixed it.
goin to try a new lambda again as last one was off another car and did help a little bit
after that i'm stumped changed, throttle body, tps, icv, air temp sensor, green coolant sensor, crank sensor, new battery, car serviced with new spark plugs and oil filter, map sensor, coilpack x 2
any other help would be great if anyone knows of anything else ??? -
#16Any news on this? Mine does the same thing revs up and down below 1k :/
-
#17could be map sensor..
