Find the oil leak :)

  1. #1
This is off my GFs 1.1 206 (but same engine as a saxo).

I live two hours away from my girlfriend so I can't inspect the focking properly thing myself sadly.

Where do you think the oil is coming from judging by this pic? I could probably do with her taking a pic from the top as it looks likely it's the HG (praying it's not the crank seal) but it's a bit dark for her now. Hoping one or two of you might have had a similar leak and found out where it was coming from!

    Cheers,

looks like you have got three leaks, both driveshaft seals and what is that structure in the top left of pic?

    Is it using much oil?

Input shaft seal on the box..?

Or crank seal as you suggested.

Is it affecting the clutch at all?

leaking from the oil filter? rocker cover?

that structure at the top of the pic is close to the oil pump. it is a feed to the oil filter. would bet any money that the oil filter is behind the dipstick and has an hexagon yoke ontop of the filter. its just a wee seal there

driveshaft seals, that could account for the oil that's on the gearbox and the exhaust - except we think, it's lost engine oil

the structure on the top left of the pic is the engine.

Oil filter is out of picture on the left, so I'm presuming it's not leaking there. No point trying to explain to GF to try and take pics around the rocker cover...

did she replace the dip stick if not it could be coming from there

those two bolts at the top left are part of the housing for the oil filter feed. drain oil and replace the seal behind it

It's not as severe as the other leak... which is the one I'm trying to source, thanks for the heads up though dude

I'm ignoring it because I really hope it isn't dude!

    Haha, fair enough.

Judging by the way it seems to be creeping through the flywheel guard and box. It can only be those two. Shame you can't check whether it's gearbox oil or engine oil.

Sucks it isn't a separate flywheel guard that can be whipped off to check.

Unless the leak is coming from further back and is the driveshaft seal.

Other than them, I can't see it being anything else.

My first reaction was 'gearbox leak'. Tried to get GF to 'smell' the oil on the floor, as GB oil has a distinct wiff - 'doesn't really smell of anything' Cheers love.

The fact it's leaking on to the exhaust suggests driveshaft seal... I can't see any leak on the input shaft managing to work it's way down to the exhaust, as it would have to trickle down on the exhaust/gearbox bracket, i would have thought?

    You make a valid point.

If it was either crank or input shaft seal it would probably have sprayed a lot further and more around the flywheel area.

Driveshaft seal would drip around that area and then just get egged on a bit by the flywheel.

I have changed my mind.... Driveshaft seal lol
