Talk to me about quickshifts

Right, I tried a quickshift years ago when I was reversing a members car.

As I remember is was horrid - however I'm led to believe there are various types of quickshift.

I'm looking for someone to tell me about their particular QS, and about other varieties... Why did you choose that particular type? cost? reliability? feel? etc

GF, will have to drive the car so it can't be absolute hell for her to change gear or ponk it in reverse by accident or something.

    Cheers!

Griffith engineering one is about £24, its good theres alot less throw and it also tightens each shift.

Saying that i found it sometimes hard to get into 1st and i did crunch gears when abit of spirited driving was in order, probably down to my driving style.

I got the GE one, fitted it and didnt really notice a huuge difference, yeah the throw was shorter but not massive

I took it off about half an hour ago and went for a spin

F*CK ME! gear changes feel sloppy and awful without it!

I got this too, really struggled for first, would have to neutral it first then go for first gear to get it in, and when wanting to change quickly (which is why i bought the damn thing) id miss second an awful lot

    Cheers guys

So GE seems the more popular choice... what about the BM one?

I have a GE one on mine, can't fault it, cut the throw by 40-50%.
Tried the baker one on James's old R, throw was about the same but was a lot stiffer.

Ads id seriously avoid any of the cheaper bolt on ones like the BM and GE ones, they do reduce the throw of the gearstick and can prevent the crunching of gears, however it makes the gears feel hell of a lot more clunky as though you're damaging something when you're using it.

The compbrakes...just avoid as theyre terrible aswell, irc even Kam removed them because of problems with them!

Only one I would honestly suggest if you have to get any is the B&M, its hell of a lot smoother and makes the gears tighter. Basically like standard but feels more secure and tighter than flopping around everywhere.

Either the B&M at £120 or the sach shift that is now on Kams site for over £200, however this replaces all the standard linkages which if bought new would easily add up to near enough the same price, so is actually very good value for money, abit too cheap in my opinion!

Or new standard linkages and make sure the split pin on the gear selector is secure with little play.

theres been a few threads over the past few months and quite a few poeple also agree with my opinion on the BM and GE ones. the compbrake ones are terrible and no need for opinions as its a fact theyre poodles!
