Important! : Vtr Problem !!

   Long story short,
   Coming up Chalons way (40mph road in ilkeston) and thought i might give it a quick boot, bearing in mind i hardly had any petrol and had been on red light for about 30 miles, so don't know why i did it but i did, anyway coming up to the roundabout and my revs dropped to zero battery light came on.. car totally dead,would not turn over so i went and got a bit of fuel in jerry can put it in the sax left for 5 to go through the lines tried it again still doesn't turn over tried to bump and jump it no luck, and this is the main bit when i turn the key all it does is make a single click and thats it doesnt try to turn over just makes a single click, luckily a guy came over and said something about fuel not letting it get to low otherwise it let's in dirt and stuff and also said that the starter motor might be stuck and said its quite common on all cars.
   So there you go, all feedback will be very much appreciated !
   
   By the way all the electrics are fine if that makes a difference.

   The whole 'dirt in the bottom of the tank' thing is an old wives tail imo.
   
   Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on?

   Even if the fuel pump primes, nothing in the fuel systems going to stop it turning over is it?

   try turning the engine over by hand gibbo, you sure its not something daft like a bad earth or loose battery cable though? 40 up Chalons Way my arse lol

   How do you mean 'by hand' sorry, don't talk this technological talk like bad and loose to me haha, battery seems fine don't know where earth is though, is it that thing you and brian tried to pull out ha?
   Ye i know people only going 40 when mobile cameras are there otherwise its like Lewis Hamiltons practise track haha

    Just got in the car turned the key 2 clicks and couldn't hear the fuel pump prime,
    But was fine before?

    mk1,mk2, got plenty that have been taken out for S conversions, got one thats on 48k from a mk1

    Myn died like that once in rush hour down quarry hill
    
    sat there for 2hours like a tit coz it was dead then pressed a reset button just infront ov the break servo n it started up straight away n never cut out since.....
    wrks everytime

    What a place for it to cut out, my mate,s 1.1 cut out there few weeks ago, he had exactly the same problem, but when he was bumpin his, he slipped and ended up hitting the wall on the corner lol
    
    and what caz said mate id give that a try, happened to my vtr once, pissed me off when i found out it was only a pissin button

    no lol its not on road at the min avin sum work on it. ive bin drivin my fellas car for the last 3 months a white mk1 vtr we black wheels. iv just bought myn standard and doin work on it so prob not b on road we my green one for bout a month

    yeah lol. u prob saw me drivin rnd in it. no dnt do lexus lights n go fast stripes there just pure mingin lol. iv saw a pic on google images how im doin my saxo. u mite ov seen it its got white badges n white saxo on rear quarters looks well smart

    happend to mine its the FUel Regulator or somthing not heating the fuel up or somthin the mine didnt start or do anything onless you left it for 5 mins :s

    myabe it has nothing to do with running out of petrol.. is the immobiliser light coming on on the dash wehn you try to start it? it happens to me the odd time and has nothing to do with the petrol..

    It's not immobiser mate had the ECU unlocked, also it didn't start by hand.
