Saxos Died again!

  1. #1
    Hi all, wondered if anyone could help me with my latest Saxo fail..

    I have an 03 plate vtr and was driving on the motorway last week when suddenly I seemed to lose power and my engine management light started to flash on and off, after a min or so it went off so I carried on until the next junction but I noticed I could not get over 60mph as it had lost a lot of power?

    I came of at the next junction to have a look and as I slowed down on the slip road my engine sounded as if it was bouncing up and down and was close to stalling and it was struggling to get going 1st and 2nd gear.

    I turned back and really struggled to get home limping home at about 40mph the next morning I took a look under the bonnet and started the engine, the whole engine was violently shacking in a rhythm and the car was stalling after about a min and the engine management light is on.

    The car is booked into the garage next week but now looks as if I am going to have to push it as when I start the engine it just instantly stalls. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas as what is wrong?

    Sorry for the essay and thanks in advance!

    hey m8 i have had this problem but the car has never stalled thats the only difference. my light came on so i used to switch the engine off then start it again an the light used to go off. ppl told me to wd 40 every sensor in the engine which i did an since i have done that the light has not come on oce. could just be a sensor in need of replacing dont wurri too much. myn also used to shake aswell thats jus a limp mode where the car dusnt want you to speed because then it will mess up your cat. im sure its jus a sensor in need of replace. hope this helped pal. hope u get it fixed tell me what the problem was.

    Hmm, Saxo's are great cars. I can't understand how so many people have so many problems. However, I say WD40 every sensor connection, don't get angry with the car as you'll end up making it worse. Use your brain, and you'll find the problem.

    Loss of power and random idling, could mean you have something stuck in your air filter, blocking air... Sound odd, but I've had this problem, not with my car but with one of my quads, The thing is to check everything

    been looking at a few old threads on here 2day and found a few that have had the same problems, most look like sensor problems so hoping its just that and nothing major.

    spent £600 quid on car last month so hopeing it not gonna hit my pocket to hard?

    also this time my engine man light was flashing when it started?? when had management light on before it has just come on and stayed on? anyone know what the differance is between flashing and staying on?? (its now staying on but was flashing at first)

    Yeah a flashing management light is a SERIOUS warning about the state of the engine - I say engine, but it means that the ECU has very little information about the operation functions/conditions of the engine. Basically under Citroen Directives you shouldn't drive the vehicle at all. If the light is on permanently then it's okay to drive but should be checked out sooner rather than later.

    Simply:

    flashing = don't drive/have the engine running

    staying on = drive with low revs

    Yeh, sounds like a Sensor issue.
