I heard a slight whinning noise today but thought it was the cambelt as it has been off but now the car wobbles really bad when you give it some and its getting worse, the noise sounds like its coming from drivers front, could it be the driveshaft or gearbox? is there anyway i could find out? it might well be the gearbox but i hope not.
Weird whining noise/ bad wobble

#2Maybe wheel bearing, They can whine and when in poor condition can result in wobble through the steering wheel.
Just a thought. -
#3I will be honest my hub nut was loose a few weeks ago nd i tightened it up, I checked the wheel for play and it had none tonight so im guessing its still tight....
-
#4Hmmm,
-
#5could the bearing now be shot? i have another one to try. would a wheel bearing cause a bad wobble under load?
-
#6Bearings tend to go over time, Gradually getting worse not instantly. They would provide a wobble under load as there is play in it. Worn drive shafts provide wobble under loadding too but they dont whine. Not in my experience anyway.
-
#7it had 2 new driveshafts last year so it shouldnt be them?
-
#8Bump..............................

#9Anybody??
-
#10Have you checked your wheel bolts lately that they are tight?? Are the wheels balanced correctly??
-
#11Yep all wheels are tight, i had them all off 2 weeks ago and checked them all and as for the tyres i had 2 new rears 3 weeks ago and they were balanced sio i guess one of them could have gone out of shape but the wobble seems on the front. What ever it is is making the car run very hot and lag power.
-
#12If the belt has been orf, it might be too tight to cause the whining, and the top engine mount might not have been tightened up properly or the rubber cushion shagged or missing.
-
#13Rear imbalance wheels will not cause steering vibrations, front wheels will cause wobble and if you removed the front wheels recently then this could of disturbed the weights of the front wheels causing them to vibrate through the steering wheel, as for the whirring noise are you sure its not water pump or tensioners? spray some wd40 onto the belt/ tensioners to see if the noise disappears . and as said above, make sure your wheel nuts are all tight! as i have seen this a few times
-
#14Spin the wheels to make sure you cant feel / hear wheel bearing noise. and check your hub nut again! if it has come loose once then it WILL come loose again
