Gearbox jumping poping out of 5th gear

    Helloo,

    I have spend all afternoon trying to clear this problem searched everywhere and no clear answers.

    Anyways, basically my 106 GTI, keeps popping out of 5th gear, all other gears are perfect.

    Goes into 5th no prb, engine on or off, but when you accerate the gear stick jumps back into netural, But i can hold it in 5th.

    Its getting worse by the day its had new gear linkages 2 weeks ago only the rods though, and the clutch has been done at the same time. I think its the gearbox it might be at fault but im not totally convinced at this, any one had simlar issue?/

    my mates 106 kept jumping out of reverse and had to hold it in just like you, in the end after a bout of 2 years of putting up with it he finally had a look and where the linkages attach to the box that bit was a little bent

    Boxes jumping out is either caused by worn/misadjusted linkage or the box moving while the linkage stays where it is, causing the same effect; OR, the bearings in the box are buggered meaning thel detent can't hold dog in place to keep the gear engaged.

    If you eliminate the first option, then you need to open the box and inspect it really.

    my engine mounts had gone on my vtr, and it would pop out of gear if i put my foot down or going in reverse, replaced the engine mounts, n now it doesnt pop out at all! are your engine mounts worn?

    as above mate will be gear linkage or engine mount
