Gear box or what?

Recently i been having a few issues with the sax not liking reverse all to much, there seems to be a little whering noise/grinding in reverse or she will just stall and die.

Last couple of days ive noticed abit of a weird noise coming from up front when in 1st, 2nd and sometimes in 3rd. the easiest way to discribe the noise is as if the baffle/cat in the manifold is screwed.
every guarage ive taken it to are a waste of fecking time, they just simply start the car and listen with the bonet up. no noise is there when stationary... ive done this and explained this numerous amounts of times to the thick twats yet none of them even attempt to drive the car up the road to listen and try and atleast give me an idea of what the noise is.

The car still pulls without any issues, no grinding nothing. but the noise just make it sound like a bag of shit unless i put my foot down to cover the noise over with the sweet little whistle i get for what ever reason.

Today the EML came on, im not sure if this is to do with the issue at hand.. Ive always had a very tempermental EML and comes on and goes off when/if it pleases. so i dont know if its just its time of the month again of if the box is shagged or if its something simple or what.

Anyone have any idea what it could be? Seems the last 3 weeks has just been problem after problem with the sax ive burned through 800quid fixing the stupid issues and now broke.. and tbh.. its pissing me off and have thought about just taking it down the jordans...

not to clued up with this but my mate had this problem and it turned out to be the seals from the driveshaft to the gearbox, if thats the case just replace the seals and top the gearbox up, he was loosing oil aswell so its worth ago

Ill have a look next time i get the oppertunity to stick her on the ramps, i did notice some oil under the car a while ago but just assumed it might of been car before or what not. maybe worth just chucking some fresh oil in and seeing if that cures it until my mate lets me use his ramp

you would have to top your earbox fluid up as if thats the problem thats where it would be leaking from

This would be a great oppertunity to chang ethe clutch and release bearing before they let go as well. Also you may want to consider fitting a 1.1 box - snappy acceleration but higher revs cruizing and will use a bit more fuel because of this. Swings n roundabouts really. Boxes can be found cheaply but make sure that there is no play in the input shaft before you buy it and fit new driveshaft seals as well while your at it.

Yeah was fully intending on getting new clutch etc while i was fitting a new box, saves all the hassel at a later date if the one i got dies after fitting the new box.

Been offered a VTS box for 100quid with around 36k miles on it, was thinking about a 1.1 box, but im likely to tear the arse out of it when im down at our local banger track and ive heard 1.1boxs dont paticually like the torque behind the 1.6 and tend to die pretty quick becasue of it. not only that, but the fuel costs i currently have are high enough let alone adding to them lol.

also still got a subframe to replace and P/S pump, and maybe even track rods depending if they bent along with wishbone and subframe.

Thanks for pointers, ill defo make sure there all replaced and will check for play in input shaft.
