garage couldnt connect to ecu - running issues

as per title, went for diagnostics today to try and sort my idling problems out and the garage didnt charge me as they couldnt connect to the car. Is this common?

not really, depends on the diagnostic equipment thats used

after market ecu, fiddled with etc? I got them to run one on my car and it cost 90 quid for them to go..."oh we just turned that light back off for you. its a sensor just on its way out no big deal."

What age is the car? Single plug ECU will require older OBD kit. 2001+ is all OBD2 IIRC.

Join the club no garage that i`ve been too can connect to my ecu, except I expect Citroen with a handsome fee.I looked on ebay for a scanner with no joy.
