Oil everywhere

  1. #1
Hi. I have a lot of oil under sump area and have it in Rad as well. Is it my Head Gasket? The car runs ok and does not over heat.
I only bought it for £300 for a run around. Is it worth repairing or scrap it?

    Thanks.

If it runs ok and doesn't overheat, and you only payed £300 for it, carry on driving it.

You're welcome, but seriously no one can say how long your car will last.
I used to run £200 - £400 sheds for years, some are possibly still on the road, most are probably washing machines or fridges by now, but with a car that age/value/state, if they see you through a few months it'll have been worth it. I had an Audi 80 I paid just over £300 for which lasted 4 months (doing nearly 7000 miles) I gave it it's second service a week before the cam belt snapped, had that botched and part ex'd it for my VTR, getting £900 off the price with the Audi. I bought a Volvo 340 as a temp car it only needed to last a month, and ended up driving it to my parents house where it was used as a spare car they said they'll get rid of it when it needs something fixing, it flew through two MOTs with out needing anything doing at all. With a cheap shed just keep in mind that's what it is don't spend money on them, other than fluids etc and drive them well and you'll normally get your moneys worth out of them, anything else is a bonus!!!

Why not have a look where the oil is coming from instead of asking us when we cant see it?

Usual places for leaks at the bottom are drive shaft/gearbox seals or sump gasket, could be the sump drain plug. all easy to fix.

from the top- head gasket not easy to fix, if its head gasket it leaks from the upper drivers side front corner of engine, if its coming from behind the cambelt cover at the top it is the camshaft oil seal.
