My gearbox has become very temperamental and is sometimes difficult to get in to gear - even with the clutch fully depressed to the floor you get a notchy or grinding feeling on most gear changes, and sometimes I have to use a lot of pressure on the stick to get it in to 1st from neutral. Is it likely to be down to a worn clutch (which I suspect) or could it be related to the linkages and the rubber ball that fits on the end being worn? What checks can I do myself at home? Thanks in advance for any help.
Source of gearbox woes?

#2a need to know this too

#3I had this problem It turns out to be the linkage if u get under neither have a look at the rubber ball while some 1 puts it in gear you should notice quite abit of friction try wd40 if not just replace it

#4Renewing the gearbox oil can do the gears a world of good!
-
#5have just changed gearbox oil and it made no difference - if anything i would have said it was more slightly difficult to shift afterwards but hard to perceive any real change.
are the rubber balls easy to replace without dismantling the gear linkages? -
#6Just found this...
Are we talking about part number 2? -
#7more than likely to be a problem with either
2 the ball
or
5 or 4 gear linkages -
#8Ok sounds like a job for Friday afternoon then - jack it up and take a look. Besides the advice for the ball (missing, worn etc.) what should I be looking for with the linkages (i.e. where will the wear likely be and what are the indicators). Sorry for the n00b questions. Also, if I get a replacement ball (assembly) and linkages is it a DIY job or does it require dropping the gearbox/clutch? I am relatively competent at most mechanical things but since I rely on the car for work would be anxious about tackling the gearbox.

#9no need to remove box to change linkages, really easy once car is jacked up

#10were do ya put gearbox oil?

#12haha in the gearbox shudda expected that.....cheers mate
