Tappets..... :/

  1. #1
I got a new rocker cover the other day and when i changed it i thought i might as well do the tappets while i was doing it. Got a bloke from work to do it and he has made them louder.... so i got hold of a haynes manual and tried to do it myself, its a little bit quieter but still annoying.. Is there a special way of doing it?? i have used the search button but with no luck.

    Thanks

did u do it using the rule of '9' ? basically when number 1 valve is rocking you adjust number 8. 8+1=9 see rule of 9 , make sure you have some decent feeler gagues, i remember trying to adjust the points on an old nova and the feeler gagues were worng, (printed wrong sizes i think) got a new set and they adjusted up lovely.

I used the haynes manual method was fine I just double checked that they were right. Also making sure that the valve is 100% down with a good eye. The VTR engine is quite tappy anyway tbh m8 as long as it isnt rediculously tappy then I wouldn't keep changing them otherwise your rocker cover gasket my decide to pack in like mine

Its fine mate, the engines sound tappy its how they are... They have noisey injectors aswell so make sure you get a injector cleaner flush that through
