Quick mot fail help

Offside front constant velocity joint gaiter insecurely mounted to it's housing [2.5.C.1a]

Is it broken or just come off? They quoted me £75 to fix it, shall I just book it in?
  2. #2
Just needs a New clip on the cv boot, plus maybe some cv grease to fill the cv back up.

    £15 max to fix yourself

£75 is steep for a cv boot!
  4. #4
Damn!!! Deff not £75 quid man, id expect a reach around as well for that
  5. #5
is that what garages charge now for a cv boot clip and greese , thats shocking
    greese + clip 5.00
    labour 70.00

you can buy a whole new drive shaft for 45.00 of ebay

£75 might be for a new driveshaft fitted id check what they're actually gonna do for the £75 first

Cheers for the replies guys, got a development on this one now

Noticed over the last few days as im coming off the accelerator, there is a grinding noise coming from somewhere. Ive done a search and on google and ive seen this may be related to why the mot failed, is this where the noise is coming from? Seems to only happen just as I come off the pedal...

could well be the source of your noise, if the gaitor has been off a while the CV joint will be goosed, hence the 75 pound quote to repair it. Also a lot of garages, ourselves included, steer clear of cheap ebay type parts as they aren't worth fitting due to the amount of returns on them, its a waste of our labour, not so bad when you're doing it yourself but working for nothing is no fun lol

Yeah it sounds just like what other people have been saying, does the quote sound a bit more reasonable now? Think I best phone them tomorrow and find out what they will be repairing on it I guess.

sounds about right if they are replacing the shaft tbh
