1.5 Diesel Gearbox in VTR?

  1. #1
Yo my vtr gearbox is fucked so im looking to replace it.
I've heard 1.5 diesel gearbox is probably the best to replace it with as its stronger or something.
So i'd like to know would it be better than standard vtr gearbox?
Will it be a bit faster in lower gears n slower in top end?

    Cheers guys

Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm sure the VTR and 1.5D box have the same final drive therefore basically the same box. No, it won't be faster in lower gears. If you want a box which is slower top end but faster acceleration go for a S1 or S2 Rallye box. Even the VTS box will be an improvement over the VTR one.

Not sure why people always assume a diesel gearbox is stronger, but no they aint and it wont be quicker either.

probably coz diesels in general have a fook load of torque, so it would make sense to manufacture a stronger box to deal with so much torque.

So it will be basically the same as the vtr gearbox then boys?

    yes it will be

A whopping 70lb-ft of torque! Diesel Paxos are less torquey than Furios.

everyone knows saxos 1.5d have shitloads of torque

in general that was, look at 306 dt's man, you will see why people get the idea.

KrisB might have a Rallye box kicking about still if you fancy messaging him, but they 1.5D box is identical to the VTR one, Furio boes have faster acceleration but lower top-end, there's a sticky somewhere with the ratios for all the gearboxes on it

will a 1.5 diesel fit straight in or will i have to change drive shafts or anything?

all boxes will fit. the only problems you'd have is putting a vtr/s box onto a lower model, as the driveshafts dont quite sit. the other way, however, is fine (have a 1.1 box on mine!)

as for boxes to pick, if you want it to stay about the same to drive, get a vtr box. pretty sure the diesel box is similar to that but with a weaker diff. if you're after better accelleration, get a shorter box from say, a 1.1 or an XSI, or a rallye if you can find one!

this is handy im looking into replacing my gearbox and cant really afford a refurbished one right now, had a look around and 1.1 boxes seem to be abit cheaper

Cheers mate, so 1.1 box will fit straight in then? because i was thinking about getting one of those as i just lost the bid on ebay for 1.5 diesel gearbox :-(

I might be wrong, but is the 1.5D box not the same as a Furio box - i.e. same final drive and non-sports cluster? The VTR box has the sports cluster.

Cough, BE4R if you can get it to fit
