Help with Carpet!! - Solved!! :)

  1. #1
    Hey Sax-P

Just bought a Blue Rallye carpet but i'm having trouble getting it to fit.

As you can see where the arrow is pointing there is a big "lump" sticking out. and the grey carpet has its own mould to compensate for it. However the Rallye carpet doesn't. As you can see in this picture...

Now if I actually look at the "lump" it is just a chunk of polystyrene or something that covers a screw :/ What shall I do about this? Surely this screw has relevance and some form of importance. Shall I just hack saw it off? How come some saxo's don't have this lump??

This is a picture of the offending item!!

This is the chunk of polystyrene.

and this is the screw which it covers. Shall I just hacksaw about 2/3 of the thread?

All help appreciated! Need to know this asap as the carpet is currently in mid-fit and it wont seal under the doors untill this is gone!

i would hazard a guess that most people do away with the polystyrene mate, if it's that important just cut the polystyrene down flat so it still covers the screw but allows the carpet to go in too.

looks really nice btw, i need to clean mine

I want to just get rid of the polystyrene altogether but i'm worried the screw will eventually bore through the carpet :/ its just frustrating because the carpet just keps popping out!! Shall I use a spray adhvesive to keep it down? But then again I wanna take it out again soon for when I get a new saxo! So I want it to be removable. :/

Thanks mate, was a state when I bought it. Went to halfrauds bought some carpet cleaner and gave it a good hosing down. Sorted

i wouldn't stick it down if your planning on removing it any time soon, might ruin it

i would cover the screw with something flat and tough, but i doubt it would bore through as it would have to be loose and rubbing for that to happen.

Is the original carpet not stuck with adhesive. When I lifted it up I saw what can only be described as a "network of webs" like old glue. I could always try velcro or something lol

it may be stuck down, but that glue would be like 10 years old, fresh glue would hold it down so tight it would be a bitch to take out any time soon lol.

i would personally just shave the polystyrene down so the bolt is still covered.

To the top. Want some more advice.

Remove the polystyrene and just cover the screw with something else that it wouldn't get through. Maybe a thin bit of wood/metal.

What about hacksawing it clean off? Has no one else encountered this issue when changing their carpet?

Bump, does anyone know what the screw is actually for? Shall I cut off some thread?
  11. #11
    Just cut it off

wow that is a big screw lol, didnt realise it stuck out so much, i would take it down a fair bit then just put a bolt on it and cover it with a thin bit of that polystyrene

maybe a screw used on other models? so in your model they have just put polystrene over it rather than redesigning your car without one when it was first made? So doubt its anything overly important... could probably cut it back a bit and cover with something that isnt going to damage the carpet

    cut the screw out

    clearly isnt important lol

Cheers guys, I'll just saw it off and stick a small bolt on the end so its not going to be such a sharp point.
